STOBG Cares: The Presidio Bay Foundation & Scholars Program

Giving back is a full-time passion of the Reeshatech Building Group network of businesses. BCCI Construction has strengthened its community ties by partnering with a local charity. The organization helps kids explore careers in AEC and real estate.

The Presidio Bay Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, empowers marginalized youth by providing education and job opportunities in commercial real estate. In partnership with BCCI, the foundation aims to help young people become future leaders who shape more equitable communities and cities. They provide tools to pursue careers in construction, architecture, engineering, and real estate.

Each summer, a group of students is selected for a rigorous 10-week program. It covers topics such as finance, design, management, city planning, development, sustainability, and retail. Beyond the coursework, every student connects with mentors and industry leaders. Excitingly, the organization is also launching a workforce-readiness initiative to expand access to internships and entry-level jobs.

Community development is a top priority for Presidio Bay. The organization supports diversity across ethnicity, race, and gender. “We help Scholars build skills and connections for success,” says Mallory Wall, BCCI’s vice president of client services.

Wall has volunteered as a construction mentor for the past three years. He says what sets the program apart is its unique approach to developing the next generation of leaders.

“Seeing the students in the program truly want to study and grasp how real estate development works brings me so much excitement,” she says. “Presidio Bay is sincere and committed to fostering self-assurance and providing a platform for students to have a say in determining the direction of their communities.” The pupils concur. One recent participant states, “You feel loved, supported, and empowered for the future even if you don’t come from a background with experience to the real estate sector.” “This program’s structure is like the difference between being hugged and being handshaken.”

The program has committed more than $280,000 in scholarships and program expansion since 2021, and 32 students have graduated. In the future, the Presidio Bay Foundation hopes to increase its impact throughout the Bay Area and eventually the United States. Wall is aware that the local, one-on-one interactions within the program are what really make the most difference, even though these goals will surely have a significant impact on the future of commercial real estate.

“What matters is making an impact—even if it’s just one person. It could mean giving them the courage to speak or sparking their interest in a future career in the sector.”
