LF Driscoll’s work at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) has once again earned OSHA’s “Star” level status. This marks the twentieth consecutive year of recognition in the Voluntary Protection Program. This achievement makes HUP the longest-running construction site in the nation to maintain OSHA’s highest safety standard.

Employers who have attained excellent occupational safety and health are officially recognized by OSHA through approval into the Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). The Star level denotes the greatest degree of success in preventing and managing health and safety risks as well as in the ongoing development, application, and enhancement of their safety and health management systems.

Ken Innella, president of LF Driscoll, adds, “We are immensely proud of the team that has been helping to make HUP a model for construction and workplace safety for more than 20 years.” “Achieving 20 years as an OSHA VPP site is a significant milestone that demonstrates the dedication of LF Driscoll and HUP to our Safety 360° philosophy of safety for everyone, everywhere, every day.”

OSHA specifically commended LF Driscoll’s communication and safety planning prior to construction starting, as well as the team’s training of on-site staff on hospital regulations, LF Driscoll safety policies, and site-specific safety risks and mitigation, during their inspection of the HUP workplace.

OSHA regional supervisor Michael Rivera praised LF Driscoll in his VPP approval letter. “Participants of VPP operate effective safety and health management programs that serve as models for other businesses, workers, and unions,” he wrote. “It is admirable to have reached a level of worker protection that surpasses adherence to legal requirements.”
